Movies in the Digital Age

Imagine an electronic gadget as big as the Piano that is used to play movies on the television. Funny, right? Well, when Video Cassette Recorder (VCR) was invented in 1971, it was indeed as big as the Piano. The cost wasn't any less either. It was more than a luxury even for a wealthy person.

Rapid development in the field of Electronics engineering in the last couple of decades gradually resulted in building a compact VCR. Then digital era made Video cassettes obsolete. In came the Compact Discs (CD) and Digital Video Discs (DVD) which lead to the invention of CD and DVD players.

Even for a movie buff, watching all the movies in the theatre could turn out to be quite an expensive affair. Renting a movie isn't a way out either because of the non-availability of recently released movies in the library collection.

The recent trend in the DVD market is that the DVD prints are compressed to one fifth of the file size of the original DVD only. For example, a DVD usually has a storage capacity of 4GB. The compression of the movie file size to one fifth of its original size makes it possible to store almost 5 movies in a single DVD. Though the video quality might not be as good as the original movie print, purchasing 5 movies for the price of 1 DVD is quite an offer that one might find quite tempting to resist.

Though movies can be viewed online these days for free, there is one drawback with this option. The internet speed has to be at least 2MBPS for the movie to be continuously streaming. This constrains us to watch movies only when we have the internet connection.

Buy DVDs online:

Searching for a DVD online has been simplified to a great extent. There are quite a few movie sites which helps you to find the movie you are looking for by using the search box. Internet - a boon to us in the modern age has made it possible to get quite a few things done just with a click of the mouse. When it comes to the world of entertainment, if a person has internet access and a credit card, one of the fastest, easiest ways to rent movies is online. Streaming movies is another option to watch movies online. These options give you the opportunity to watch movies from home without a need to go to the movie hall every time. There is one constraint though which might prevents the internet option being a complete solution to watch movies online. To watch the movies online continuously without any disturbance, you need to have a minimum internet speed for the movies to be streaming with no interruption.

Buy DVDs at a cheap rate!

There are quite a few ways to watch movies at an affordable price:

- Rent a movie - Movie libraries are opened up in almost all the cities these days. Even these movie libraries have their own website online. You just need to be a registered member to rent movies from them. Select the movies online from their available collection and the movies shall be couriered to you. The disadvantage with the renting option is that you might mostly not find the movie of your choice or have to wait for the movie for it would have been hired by someone else.

- Trade the DVDs - Trading your DVDs with the movies that you are looking for could be another option. By doing this, you don't have to have any monetary transactions. Just exchange the DVDs with the person interested in your movie collection.

- Buy used DVDs - Some of the retail shops, supermarkets might try to get rid of the inventory, which makes it difficult for them to maintain. This is the best opportunity for you to grab the cheapest deal!! They might offer to sell away 3 DVDs for the price of 2.

- Compare rate among the retailers online - Among the options listed above, this would probably be the best option if you plan to own a DVD. Just get online, look for a website that helps you to search for the movie of your choice. These sites can also help you compare the price of the DVDs among the various dealers or retailers in that geographic location. It is up to you to make the choice of the best deal available. Once the choice is made, you are just a few clicks away from owning the DVD. Once the payment is made online, it would only take a couple of days to ship the DVD to your place. With a home theatre system facility at your house and all lights put off, all that is required is a pack of pop corn and you would feel like watching the movie in the theatre!
