Alex Ter-Osipov, Usoris Technical Director reports, “Our new version 5.1 is a minor release, yet it has so many new features that it is in many ways like a major release. The new QuickConnect module, Gateway Mediation Server, and Voice & Video Chat connection mode, as well as numerous other features and fixes took us almost six months to develop, but it was worth it. We promised our users that we would implement their wishes in the new release, and that the upgrade would be free – now we are delivering on our promises."
Remote Utilities (RUT) is remote desktop software that provides easy and secure access to remote PCs. With Remote Utilities, the user can view a remote screen and operate the mouse and keyboard as if sitting right there. Remote Utilities can connect either over a LAN or the Internet. The connection is established either directly using an IP address, or indirectly using Internet ID, a firewall bypass feature that is today’s standard for advanced and powerful remote PC access software.
The QuickConnect feature lets the remote user establish a remote connection without installing the program. The user only has to run the QuickConnect file and then accept the incoming connection from the helpdesk technician. The QuickConnect executable file is downloaded and then the user accepts the remote connection request from the helpdesk technician. The technician takes care of everything else.
The other major addition is the Gateway Mediation Server (GMS), a free program that replicates the functionality of the Internet ID server and allows firewalls and NAT services to be bypassed when establishing a remote connection. The GMS is aimed specifically at helpdesk providers. Unlike the global Internet ID server, the Gateway Mediation Server can be downloaded and installed locally. The helpdesk provider has full control over the mediated connection and is no longer dependent on a global Internet ID server.
Also new to version 5.1 are Voice & Video Chat that uses the open media file format WebM, which ensures good audio/video quality even on slower Internet connections; the customization of the Quick Connect module with the user's logo, text and background color; and an Address book manager that enables the user to work with multiple address books and to set any address book to ‘Read only’ to protect it from being modified.
Many older features have been upgraded. The built-in MSI-Configurator has been significantly improved with three types of RUT-Server distribution packages. Users can now create Standard MSI packages, ‘One-click’ packages, and QuickConnect packages. The file transfer window now features tabs that can be ‘assigned’ to different remote PCs thus allowing the remote user to access files on different PCs from the same window. Now, the remote RUT-Server settings can be accessed from the context menu for the selected connection in the RUT-Viewer.
Conrad Sallian, Director of Marketing and PR adds, “Remote Utilities has always been a product for ‘techies,’ one of the best remote desktop software products for professional use. No one will be surprised that the new features in this release are mostly for professionals who need reliable remote desktop software in their everyday work. We do not oversimplify things at the expense of security and performance; rather, we offer a powerful product for power users and will stick with this strategy in the future."
Remote Utilities includes important user benefits like a lifetime license, the ability to transfer a license, firewall bypass, built-in remote installation and configuration tools, an on-premise mediation server and the option of a no-installation, no-configuration remote host.
